Housing Process

Apply for housing as soon as possible. Our residence hall assignment process is done on a first-applied, first-assigned basis. If you apply later in our process, housing may be limited. Housing is not guaranteed for any student.

Our apartments are available for room selection for a period during the renewal period. After room selection closes, our assignments team will assign any available apartment spaces based on application date and eligibility.

Room change requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, based on current availability. While we do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible, current occupancy may limit our ability to grant room change requests.

The Room Change Request form can be found on the Housing Portal. Housing makes every effort to assign students to their first preference based on availability. If you were not assigned to your first preference, you have automatically been placed on a standby list for a room change. You should NOT submit the room change request form if you were not assigned your first room preference. These requests will be canceled.

If your room change request can be granted, our staff will notify you via University email to offer you the room change. You will have 48 hours to accept the room change. If you do not accept the room change during that period, your room change request will be canceled.

Learn more about room change requests.

The application fee and housing prepayment are paid by the student with their first housing application. These non-refundable fees must be paid in order for an application to be considered complete and to receive a room assignment. The application fee is a processing fee, while the housing prepayment will be applied to the student’s account balance after the 14th class day of the term for which the student is applying. If a housing contract is canceled for any reason, both the application fee and prepayment will be forfeited.

After a student’s first housing application, a housing prepayment is required for all subsequent housing applications. A housing prepayment is required for all continuing students and must be paid with each new application. Payments made for previous housing applications do not carry over to subsequent applications. This prepayment may be paid at the time of application or deferred to the student’s tuition and fees bill for the applicable term. The prepayment is non-refundable and does not guarantee a space on campus.

Roommate groups must be created and verified on the Housing Portal to be considered for assignment. A roommate group must meet these requirements for preferred roommates to be placed together:

  • The roommate group must include all requested members and be verified by the group leader.
  • All preferred roommates must have identical room preferences in the same order to be placed together.
  • Single-person roommate groups will be removed.
  • Once all roommates have been added, the group leader must verify the group in the Housing Portal. This important final step will confirm the roommate group, which will not allow any new members to be added, and let Housing know that the group is ready for assignment.

Due to the overwhelming demand for housing, a standby list may have to be created for either first-year students or continuing students. This means that we are unable to offer the student a housing assignment at that time. While being on the standby list does not guarantee you a housing assignment, students will be notified of any housing assignments via their University email if a space becomes available.

Once an individual has signed the contract on the housing portal, the student is placed in a legally binding contract with the Â鶹ҹÊÐ's Office of University Housing. If the student wishes to request the termination of that binding contract, the student must complete a contract buyout request form.

Learn more about the contract buyout process.

Current apartment residents can choose to renew their same room in our apartments for the next academic year. This is for current residents in Legacy Park Apartments and The Heritage Apartments only.

Same room renewals are given the first opportunity to sign their contract for the next year and secure their same bed space at the apartment complex. If the student does not renew their same room, the room is available for other students to be assigned. Students that renew their same room cannot request a room change at a later date or change their room during room selection.

The Â鶹ҹÊÐ follows the University of Louisiana System policy that requires all unmarried, full-time first-year students, regardless of age or emancipation status, to live in campus residential halls as long as space is available. Learn more about the requirement.

All residents are required to have a meal plan except for the Heritage Apartment residents.

Visit Campus Dining Services for information about each plan. Learn more about the Meal Plan Requirement here.
