Biography

Dr. Lynd is an Associate Professor and Devon Endowed Professor of Mathematics at the Â鶹ҹÊÐ. Before coming to Louisiana, he was a postdoc at the University of Aberdeen, the University of Montana, and Rutgers University. Before that, he was a graduate student at Ohio State, where my advisor was Ron Solomon.

His research is on the structure of finite groups around a prime p, and especially how that structure interacts with adjacent fields. He tends to think most about partial groups, fusion systems and their associated homotopy theory and homological algebra, and modular representation theory.

He is a member of the editorial board at Quaestiones Math.

  • Structure and representation theory of finite groups, as viewed locally at a prime p
  • Fusion systems, which are finite categories that serve as models for the p-local structures of finite groups, for local structures of blocks of finite group algebras in characteristic p, as well as for the p-completed classifying spaces of finite groups
